چکیده

Organizations invest considerable development effort in personalized systems to reap the benefits of knowledge management. Competition and the need for innovation imply in ever-changing and emerging needs that result in costly effort to redesign such systems. A flexible knowledge management approach should achieve personalization for organizations by adapting to the domain of the organization, meanwhile simplifying the incorporation of future knowledge retrieval needs. We describe such an approach that employs a knowledge management platform at its core, which supports adding and removing multiple folksonomies, constantly enriches them with semantics and provides domain-specific recommendations and semantic search capabilities. This approach to knowledge retrieval has been applied to the domain of homemade explosives and counter-terrorism efforts as part of the HOMER project. Preliminary evaluation from the perspective of the end-users – law enforcement, security and related agencies – is presented. Semiautomatic Image Retrieval Using the High Level Semantic Labels

Content-based image retrieval and text-based image retrieval are two fundamental approaches in the field of image retrieval. The challenges related to each of these approaches, guide the researchers to use combining approaches and semi-automatic retrieval using the user interaction in the retrieval cycle. Hence, in this paper, an image retrieval system is introduced that provided two kind of qu...

Semantic Enrichment of Folksonomy Tagspaces

The usability and the strong social dimension of the Web2.0 applications has encouraged users to create, annotate and share their content thus leading to a rich and content-intensive Web. Despite that, the Web2.0 content lacks the explicit semantics that would allow it to be used in large-scale intelligent applications. At the same time the advances in Semantic Web technologies imply a promisin...

Helping online communities to semantically enrich folksonomies

This paper presents our approach to collaborative and semiautomated semantic structuring of folksonomies. Tags freely provided by users of online communities are not semantically linked, and this hinders significantly the potentials for browsing and exploring these data. We propose a sociotechnical system combining automatic handlings of tags, using state of the art algorithm, and user friendly...

Community-Aware Semantic Multimedia Tagging – From Folksonomies to Commsonomies

Tagging is an extremely popular mechanism in many Web 2.0 applications to create metadata supporting search and retrieval of arbitrary multimedia information like digital images, video or audio. However, compared to the syndicated multimedia information itself, the metadata are still “sticky”. They cannot be accessed across several Web 2.0 applications, their semantic enrichment is not possible...

Folksonomies - Indexing and Retrieval in Web 2.0

One of the defining principles of Web 2.0 when it first emerged was that the collective intelligence of users should be harnessed in order to enrich services for that user community (O’Reilly, 2005). This so-called ‘network effect’ principle remains as central to the Web 2.0 thesis then as it does five years on (O’Reilly and Battelle, 2009). Folksonomies, or collaborative tagging systems, have ...
